Tech Scribe is a newsletter designed for people with a writing or communication background who work or would like to work for technology companies. As this industry matures, managers responsible for tech products—and software in particular—increasingly realize the strategic importance of writing throughout the development process. And with that, more opportunities are created for UX writers, technical writers, content strategists, copywriters, instructional designers, among other professionals who I suspect might not even know there's a chair waiting for them in this thriving industry.
Since I landed my first job in a tech company—after spending a decade working as a journalist, press officer, digital marketer, and book editor—I've walked through the whole spectrum of states of mind regarding my job and the skills I was able to bring to the table: from the impostor syndrome to the fantastic feeling of empowerment that building familiarity with tough topics gives us. I developed an ever-growing penchant for getting out of my comfort zone—as when I decided I would start studying computer science for real—, and this led me to seek other writers with whom I could exchange experiences.
As I reached more writers and started talking more publicly about the job, an increasing flow of people full of doubts and stories to share came to me. I started dozens of conversations through multiple platforms about what it means to work in the intersection of writing and tech, which skills we should strive to develop, what practical tips and best practices I might share, what books to read and courses to take, what trends to follow.
It is an exciting conversation—and one that should be public. This is why I launched the Tech Scribe newsletter: to make the conversation about writing for tech products public and bring it to the next level.
